Box Mapping and The Points System

The Points System allows you to set up your box sizes and weights. You can also set up two groups of boxes, and specify which group of boxes items will use.  For example, you might sell fishing poles, which are very long, however, by volume they may fit into a small box. However, due to their shape, they would need a very long box/tube.  So you could set group 1 boxes to be standard size rectangular boxes, and group 2 to be long tubes.

  • Login to your ASM admin
  • Navigate to the Settings page
    • Configure your box mapping settings for each box size you plan on shipping.
  • Group # - Select group 1 or group 2.  If you are only using 1 group of boxes, then leave it set to group 1.
  • Point Value - Enter the total number of points for this box.  A common way of determining the point value is by box volume.  So if the box size is 10 x 10 x 10, then you would enter 1000.  However, in some cases, you might want to use a different formula for determining the point value.  The system will find the smallest box that has a point value equal to or greater than the total number of points for all items added to the cart. For example, if you have 3 boxes set:  100 points, 200 points, and 300 points, and there is a total of 150 points (all items in the cart added together), the system would chose the 200 point box.
  • Dimensions - Enter the dimensions of the box in inches. The shipping rate will be calculated based on total weight of items + weight of box, and dimensions of box.
  • Weight - Enter the empty weight of the box in lbs. (for example: when using the Point System, you will need to enter a point value for each item that you want to be shipped with the points system,  For items that do not have a point value entered, the system will treat it as 0 points, only counting the weight of the item towards shipping and placing it in the same box as any other item that it checks out with.)

  • Setting Up your products for use with the Points System

    1
Go to the summary page page and locate Your Items Summary
    2
Download your Product database in CSV format
    3
Open the Database file and locate the column labeled “item-points”
    4
Set your products “item-points” based on the products cubic volume or any other custom variable you plan on using to ship your items.
    5
Save your database and upload it to the ASM Backend on the summary page
*Mac Users: please save your csv as MS-DOS Comma Separated(.csv)

Important note: If you are using multiple box groups you will have to format your products “item-points” to reflect your box groups. If a product will be assigned to box group one and has a point value of 100. the proper value would be “1=100” and for products that you want to be assigned to box group 2 you would input “2=(whatever the point value is for the product)"
